Arrivals at Greece’s major airports rise

Arrivals at Greece’s major airports increased by  5.7 % between January and November 2015,  exceeding 15 million (820.000 additional arrivals) compared to 2014. This according to the figures released by the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE).

Arrivals at the Athens Intenrational Airport increased by 23.6 percent during the same period. Furthermore, arrivals in November increased by 11.3% compared to the same month in 2014.

The Cyclades maintained a growth rate of 15% during the first eleven months of 2014. The Dodecanese and Crete showed a minor decrease (-2% and -0.8% respectively), compared to the same period in 2014.

The Greek government recently signed an agreement with  the FRAPORT AG-SLENTEL Ltd consortium, which is expected to contribute to the upgrading of Greece’s regional airports on the islands of Myconos, Santorini, Zakynthos and in Thessaloniki, among other locations. The agreement includes the obligation for the investor to improve the airports’ infrastructure. SETE estimates the agreement to bring significant benefits for the Greek tourism industry and local communities.
