FinMin Tsakalotos tours Eurozone capitals

Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos is on a tour of Eurozone capitals to promote Greece’s progress in its fiscal adjustment and the social security reform as well as to discuss the upcoming first bailout review, AMNA reports.

After meeting French counterpart Michel Sapin on Sunday in Paris, he traveled to Helsinki yesterday and met with his Finnish counterpart Alexander Stubb, who voiced his satisfaction with the momentum of Greek reforms. “I hear good things about Greece everywhere and from other countries and in the Eurogroup,” he said after the meeting, protothema.gr reports.

Stubb commented that there has been significant progress in relation to reforms in Greece. Furthermore, he noted that he was happy to see the progress in financial stability, fiscal measures and structural reforms.

“We discussed the Greek road map for exiting the crisis which started with the successful recapitalization of the banks and now continues with the successful conclusion of the first program review,” Tsakalotos said after the meeting, tovima.gr notes.

Today Tsakalotos is visiting Amsterdam for a meeting with Eurogroup chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem, and tomorrow he will see German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble in Berlin.

Last week, Tsakalotos was in Rome where he met with his Italian counterpart, Minister of Economy and Finance Pier Carlo Padoan. According to a joint announcement, the conversation touched on various issues on the European economic and political agenda. Primarily the economic situation in Greece, with the progress on reforms and the next steps with the EU institutions about the financial assistance and the economic adjustment programme. The refugee crisis and in particular the financial and economic implications on Member States and the European Union as a whole. The strengthening of the institutions of the eurozone and the prospect of greater integration of the European Monetary Union, with specific reference to the Banking union.
