“Madama Butterfly” by the Greek National Opera

The Greek National Opera presents Giacommo Puccini’s, “Madama Butterfly” on January 17, 20, 22, 23, 24 and 27 at the Athens Concert Hall.

The tragic love story of 15-year-old geisha Cio-cio-san and U.S. Naval Officer B. F. Pinkerton is directed by Nikos S. Petropoulos. Puccini’s melodic composition, the magical arias and the depth of this “tragedy” have made “Madama Butterfly” one of the most popular operas in the world. This play is of particular historic meaning to the Greek National Opera since it was its first presented in 1940, 36 years after Puccini had composed it.

Luiz Fernando Malheiro, Artistic Director and Main Conductor of the Amazonas Filarmônica and of São Pedro Theatre of São Paulo, will conduct the performances of “Madama Butterfly” on January 17, 20, 22 and 23.
