Two Greeks and a Holywood actress nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

Two Greeks and a Hollywood star are Greece’s nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize, it was announced on Monday.

The Academy of Athens, the Hellenic Olympic Committee and representatives of Greece’s major Universities and Institutes proposed eighty-five year old Emilia Kamvysi and 40-year old fisherman Stratis Valiamos, both residents of the island of Lesvos, who have responded – in their own way – to the refugee crisis. Lesvos is among the eastern Aegean islands that recieve massive flows of refugees.

Also actress and activist Susan Sarandon was chosen for her response to the refugee drama during the past year.

The award will be announced in October by the Norwegian Nobel Institute.
