Thessaloniki celebrates the Chinese New Year

A series of festivities will take place in the northern city of Thessaloniki on Saturday, February 13th, as Chinese enterpreneurs will welcome the Chinese New Year.

In 2016 the Chinese New Year was celebrated on February 8th. Events will resume on Saturday, February 13th, in the city’s “Chinatown”, an area that entails mostly Chinese stores and includes Aisopou, Tantalou and Sapphous streets.

According to the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Yiannis Boutaris, 150 Chinese shop owners will celebrate in their own, traditional way in “Chinatown”, where the municipality recently completed an 800 thousand euro revamping plan. The area will be decorated with red ornaments and on Saturday visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a large parade and taste Chinese delicacies.
