Distinguished personalities to attend the Delphi Economic Forum

Distinguished personalities from the fields of politics, the economy, business and science will attend the annual conference “Delphi Economic Forum”, that will take place at the European Cultural Centre of Delphi, Greece between the 25th and the 28th of February 2016.

While the worldwide economic and social environment is changing rapidly, Greece has to manage the worst economic crisis in decades, as well as set the foundations for broad structural reforms that could ultimately determine the country’s growth prospects. The conception of a much needed strategy for the future is therefore taking place in unfavorable conditions, which very vividly convey some of the new challenges in store for the country and the wider South East European region. These challenges predominantly lie in the need to sustain the economy, while at the same time there is a necessity for institutional reforms, the management of the immigration issue and the need to overcome social challenges such as the demographics of ageing. Despite the adverse circumstances, Greece must demonstrate the ability to respond with effective solutions to these challenges.

The conference will attempt to address emerging challenges for Greece, influence the national and regional agendas and promote sustainable and socially responsible growth policies. Among the people to address the confrence are Lucas Papademos former Prime Minister of Greece, Dimitris Avramopoulos European Commissioner for Migration Home Affairs and Citizenship, Ioannis Amanatidis Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Evaggelos Venizelos former Deputy Prime Minister of Greece, Nikos Voutsis president of the Hellenic Parliament, Steven Bitner Economic Councelor at the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Christophe Chantepy Ambassador of France to Greece, John Kittmer British Ambassador to Greece and Helene Ahrweiler rector and president of the Administration Council of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi.

The Delphi Economic Forum is a policy platform and an ideal starting point to focus attention on what should be done in concrete terms to realize strategic goals for the socio-economic transformation of Greece. The conference will take place under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, H.E. Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
