Romania assumed the Chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance

The Embassy of Romania in Athens on March 11th hosted an event to mark the beginning of the Romanian Chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). On this occasion, a symbolic ceremony was organized to locally mark the handover of the organization’s Chairmanship from Hungary.

The event started with a review of the results of the Hungarian Chairmanship, and continued with the presentation of the priorities and main lines of the programme of the Romanian IHRA Chairmanship (March 2016 – March 2017).  Moreover, details were presented concerning the commemorative events planned to take place in the city of Larissa between 20-22 May 2016, in cooperation with the local authorities and the Jewish Community of Larissa.

The event,  hosted by the Romanian Embassy, was attented by Heads of Mission from IHRA Member and Observer Countries, members of the Hellenic delegation to the organization, representatives of the Jewish community in Greece, representatives of the Larissa municipality, as well as academic and cultural personalities.

The Romanian Chairmanship will host two IHRA Plenary meetings during the course of the year, in Bucharest in May and in Iasi in November 2016.
