Meeting of the Greece-Republic of Korea Joint Interministerial Committee

The second meeting of the Joint Interministerial Committee of Greece and the Republic of Korea (JIC), took place on Monday in Athens. It was co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas and his counterpart the Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, Taeho Lee.

The meeting was an important step towards strengthening the bilateral economic and trade relations between Greece and the Republic of Korea, and the topics discussed included the promotion of exports, shipping, agricultural development, the promotion of Greek agricultural products in the Korean market, research and technology, informatics and telecommunications, transport networks, energy and the environment, tourism and airline links between Greece and the Republic of Korea.

Finally, there was a discussion on issues concerning Korea’s investments in Greece, while it was agreed that a Greek business delegation will visit Seoul in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Doha Forum 2016

Deputy Foreign Minister for International Economic Relations, Dimitris Mardas, visited Doha on May 21 and 22 to participate  in the “Doha Forum 2016.” In his speech, Mr. Mardas spoke of the geopolitical and economic challenges Greece is confronted with and the Greek economy’s prospects for recovery.

During his visit, Mr. Mardas also met with Qatar’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani, Deputy Foreign Minister Soltan Bin Saad Al Muraikhi and the President of Qatar’s Public Works Authority, Nasser Ali Al Mawlawi. Mr. Mardas also met with representatives of Greek contracting firms active in Qatar.
