Greek FM Kotzias expresses solidarity to Turkish FM Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias expressed his solidarity to the people of Turkey, while speaking on the phone with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, regarding the abominable terrorist attacks of June 28 at Istanbul’s airport.

Mr. Kotzias expressed to Mr. Çavuşoğlu his firm conviction that terrorism can have nothing to do with Islam and nor can it be linked with religious faith and the values of charity and tolerance that such faith professes.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to meet within the framework of the proceedings of the NATO Summit Meeting on 8 and 9 July, in Warsaw, where they will proceed to a review of bilateral relations and schedule an exchange of visits for the coming time.

The Greek Ministry had previously issued the following stetement:
“We express our anger at, and our abhorrence and unequivocal condemnation of, yesterday’s deadly terrorist attacks at Istanbul’s airport, which resulted in the tragic deaths of dozens of innocent people. We express our condolences to the friendly Turkish people and the families of the victims, as well as our wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.

Immediately following the explosions, a unit from the Istanbul Consulate General went to the airport and provided constant consular assistance – until the dawn hours – to Greek citizens who were at the airport and needed help with safe transport to Istanbul hotels. Since this morning, the Consulate General has been proceeding to all of the necessary actions for facilitating the repatriation of Greek citizens. There is no indication or information at this time that there were Greeks among the fatalities or injured.”
