Turkish President says he is in control of the nation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Saturday morning told a crowd of hundreds of supporters at Istanbul Ataturk International Airport that he was in full control of the nation and the rogue faction of the army had been successfully repelled.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said: “Now in Turkey there is a government elected with the votes of the nation. In the same vein, there is a President elected with the votes of the nation. We are on duty. We will continue to carry out our duty until the end. We will never leave our country to these occupiers. I want you to know this. The end will be good.”

Late on Friday evening a group referring to themselves as a “peace council,” claimed to have taken control of the Turkish state and quickly announced the instatement of a curfew and martial law. In a statement read on the state broadcaster, the group claimed they were acting in the interest of rule of law and democracy in Turkey and would draft a new constitution.
