SUMMARY:“Tinos World Music Festival”: From Tinos island to the OCC's roof
DESCRIPTION:Two days after the Tinos World Music Festival\, there will be a concert at the roof of Onassis Cultural Centre with the participation of Eva Quartet\, Eliza Carthy and Yasemi Quartet.\n\nEva Quartet (Bulgaria)\nBeguiling like the singing of Homer’s sirens in the Odyssee\, the sound threads of their simple\, unmoduled voices wrap up heart and brain. Overwhelming modesty of great voices. – Leipziger Volkszeitung\n\nThe Eva Quartet consists of some of the best Bulgarian female voices - the four young solo singers (after a strong selection from thousand applicants) of the world famous female folk choir "Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares".\nThe group was spontaneously founded by the four women in 1995 and they immediately found a common language and interests. Thus\, an unadulterated atmosphere was developing at concerts and the audience often had the impression of listening to one multilayered voice. The singers are in command of a very virtuous and very impressive style of singing which is based on an excellent technique.\nThe repertoire of the quartet comprises authentic folklore songs from different parts of Bulgaria. They are looking for the purity of the song while reading tradition in a very modern and varied way.\nThe whole programme of the quartet contains of old Bulgarian music and church hymns as well as modern music. The quartet plays with jazz musicians and with modern composers and the singers experiment with modern sounds like drum 'n' bass and ambient.\n\nGergana Dimitrova: soprano\nSofia Kovacheva: mezzo-soprano\nEvelina Christova: alto\nDaniela Stoichkova: contralto\n\nEliza Carthy (UK)\nEliza Carthy is undoubtedly one of the most impressive and engaging performers of her generation. Twice nominated for the Mercury Prize and winner of innumerable other accolades over a 25 year career\, Eliza has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists including Paul Weller\, Rufus and Martha Wainwright\, Nick Cave\, Patrick Wolf and Bob Neuwirth. More than most\, Eliza Carthy has revitalised folk music and captured the most hardened of dissenters with intelligent\, charismatic and boundary-crossing performance. Eliza grew up immersed in the world of traditional music. She still divides her time between touring and recording with her legendary parents\, Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson as well as engaging in numerous pioneering solo and band projects\, including work with Pere Ubu and Melanie Challenger\, an artist in residence in Antarctica. In what has become something of a parallel career\, Eliza has co-presented the BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards\, been a regular guest-presenter on the BBC Radio 2 Mark Radcliffe Show and has made many appearances on BBC TVs 'Later with Jools'. In her own right\, Eliza has been the subject of an hour long ITV documentary ('Heaven & Earth') and 'My Music' on Channel 5\, as well as appearing on the latest BBC Music commercial and discussing the 2015 general election on Channel 4 News. Comedian and writer Stewart Lee describes Eliza as "Not the Messiah\, but a very naughty girl".\n\nYasemi Quartet (Greece)\nYasemi is a vocal quartet made up of musicians from the Greek traditional music scene. Singers and instrumentalists both\, they convey their experience in the techniques of the traditional instruments they play through their voices.\nCombining traditional melodies with contemporary harmony\, the quartet perform a programme rooted in the vocal traditions of Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean.\nTraditional melodies reworked for vocal ensemble and new pieces built on Eastern modalities combine to highlight the multiple roles played by the voice in a rich musical tradition.\n\nMartha Mavroidi: vocals\nMaria Melachrinou: vocals\nEirini Derebei: vocals\nTasos Poulios: vocalsEntrance is free and on a first come\, first served basis.\n\nFree admission\nThe distribution of entrance tickets begins one (1) hour before the event.\n\n
