Swedish House in Kavala celebrates 80th anniversary
The Swedish House in Kavala this week celebrates its 80th Anniversary since it was donated to the Swedish Institute at Athens.
The celebration includes the opening of two photo exhibitions, which were inaugurated in the municipal Tobacco Warehouse in Kavala by Ambassador of Sweden in Athens, Her Excellency Charlotte Wrangberg and Mayor of Kavala Dimitra Tsanaka.
The exhibition “Fruitful Relations” consists of two parts: “Kavala seen through the eyes of Swedish Photographers” and “The Photoclub of Kavala discovers the Swedish House”. In her speech the Ambassador underlined the importance of the cooperation between Greece and Sweden and gave various examples of the excellent relations.
The photo exhibitions are the result of a collaboration between the Swedish Institute at Athens, the Swedish Association of Professional Photographers, the Municipality of Kavala, the Swedish House in Kavala and the Photoclub of Kavala.
The Swedish House was built by the Swedish Tobacco Company and was inaugurated 1936. In connection with the Anniversary a bust of the late Swedish professor, philhellene writer and translator Sture Linnér was unveiled by Ambassador Wrangberg. The bust was made by Athena Kargsten.
