“Memories in Black and White” – An exhibition of Franco Murer’s drawings
The stories narrated in the drawings of Franco Murer are not only of war and occupation but also of brotherhood and cooperation among the people who lived through it.
“Memories in Black and White: Real-Life Stories” (“Ricordi in Bianco e Nero: Racconti Vissuti”) is an exhibition on the stories of the Italian soldiers who took part in the Balkan campaign in Greece and Albania during World War II. The show, enriched with the pictorial testimonies of Andreas Papadatos and Takis Kazulidis is currently hosted at the Italian Institute of Culture in Athens (47, Patision st.) until March 5.
The exhibition is organised in partnership with the Honorary Consular Agency of Italy in Kalamata. “Fifteen works to narrate…little episodes, moments in the everyday life of people who, not because of a truce or an armistice, but only because they are part of humanity, don’t notice the uniforms, forget their weapons and stretch out a hand in sign of solidarity, friendship, love,” wrote Margherita Bovicelli, the Honorary Consular Agent of Italy in Kalamata, in the catalogue of the exhibition.
